He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: But a companion of fools shall be destroyed. Proverbs 13:20, KJV
The people around us play a part in shaping our thinking, attitudes, and behaviour. When we spend time with wise, God-fearing individuals, we absorb their knowledge, character, and perspectives. They help us make better decisions, learn from mistakes, and grow in faith.
The opposite is also true, though: bad company can lead to poor decisions, distractions, and even moral failure. This shows how important it is to be intentional about whom we trust and follow. Not everyone who is friendly or interesting is a positive influence.
The Bible encourages us to intentionally choose who influences us and whom we allow to impact our lives. Wise people are often humble, patient, and God-fearing. Their example helps us develop character and wisdom.
There is a wonderful promise that we can hold onto: through the wisdom of others, we also grow. We don’t just become smarter; our hearts and lives are shaped by the right influences. It is a simple, practical principle that supports true spiritual growth.
Prayer: Lord, guide me to people who draw me closer to you. Help me to embrace wisdom and be a positive influence for others. Amen.
