A month of Proverbs - 20 March 2026

Ruanne van Zyl

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25, KJV

We all want to be accepted and approved. The problem begins when people’s opinions become more important than God’s truth. Then we get trapped in a snare of fear – afraid of being misunderstood, criticised, or rejected.

When we live to please people, we easily lose our direction. We say yes when we should say no, stay silent when we should speak, and change ourselves just to fit in. This fear steals our freedom and our joy.

Trust in the Lord. When we are secure in God’s love and approval, people’s opinions lose their power over us. This does not mean we become insensitive or careless, but that our identity is no longer affected by applause, or a lack thereof.

Trusting God brings emotional and spiritual safety. We know that even if people misunderstand us, God knows us and leads us. His opinion is the only one that truly matters.

This freedom helps us live with integrity. We can be honest, loving, and steadfast, even when it is unpopular.

Prayer: Lord, free me from the fear of people. Help me to find my worth and security in you, so that I can live with courage and truth. Amen.
